Tuesday, September 6

 Join the RISD Yogis on Nickerson Green for a relaxing session of morning yoga. (Rain location: Student Fitness Center)


9:00 AM to 9:00 PM.  Fitness Center Open. Student Fitness Center (located in the First Year Quad)


11:00 AM to 12:00 PM  Convocation.  RISD Auditorium

 Join President Rosanne Somerson, Provost Pradeep Sharma, deans, departments heads, new faculty members, and other key players for the official opening of the academic year.

 

 
 

Wednesday, September 7

7:00 AM to 8:00 PM  Self-Guided Meditation & Reflection available.  Fones Cottage (above Nickerson Green)

 Visit the reflection room in Fones Cottage for self-guided meditation and reflection.

Welcome to RISD! Learn about some key resources on campus specifically for graduate students. Hear from Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, Public Safety, Title IX and the Graduate Student Alliance (GSA)


12:00 PM to 12:30 PM  Succeeding at RISD: A Campus Resource Fair.  Moore Terrace (next to the RISD Museum)

There are a wide range of offices and programs designed to make your RISD experience positive and successful. Meet the hardworking people behind these offerings at the Campus Resource Fair and learn how they can help you make RISD your own.


1:00 PM to 2:30 PM  Luncheon and Roundtable Discussions.  Moore Terrace.

Join your fellow graduate students along with faculty and staff from across campus for some roundtable discussions over lunch. Some departments include: the Provost's office, Academic Advising, Public Safety, Career Center, Research, Liberal Arts, RISD Global, and more!


2:30 PM to 4:30 PM  Guided Discussions.  RISD Museum, Grand Gallery (5th floor)

 An introduction to the collections and staff at the Museum through conversations with educators and curators. Study contemporary photographs or historic textiles with a curator, learn about the preparation of pigments with a conservator, or look closely at painting with an educator. Visit study centers and learn about research possibilities.


4:30 PM to 6:30 PM Wine and Cheese Reception & Exhibition Sol Koffler Gallery, Center for Integrative Technology (CIT)

Visit the exhibition "Formative and Persistive" in the CIT building while networking at a wine and cheese reception.

 
 

Thursday, September 8

Classes begin

6:30 PM  Grad Social Event. Grad Center Bar (GCB, 42 Charlesfield Street)

Meet up at the GCB, a popular RISD and Brown University hangout to network with fellow grads.

6:00 PM to 8:00 PM  RISD UNITES. The Met Dining Hall


10:00 PM  Grad Social Event. The Salon (57 Eddy Street)

Celebrate the end of your first week of classes with drinks and dancing at the Salon. The first 100 new graduate students to arrive will receive a free drink ticket!

 
 

Saturday, September 10

7:00 AM to 11:00 PM  Fitness Center Open. Student Fitness Center.


11:00 AM to 2:00 PM  Block Party. Benefit Street

  Celebrate the beginning of a new year at this fun-filled street fair! Check out all the ways to get involved with RISD clubs and organizations, offices that will help you make the most of RISD, and non-profits that will teach you how to use your talents to better the community. Food, games, music and tons of free stuff are to be expected as we take over Benefit Street! All are welcome.


1:00 PM to 3:00 PM Beach Day. Tillinghast Farm (231 Nayatt Rd, Barrington, RI)

Fun in the sun! It's called the RISD Farm, but it is a beach! Journey to RISD's Barrington property to get some fresh air! Bring a picnic, towel, your family, friends, and lawn games to enjoy a day outside. Catch the bus at Market Square running between 12:30 and 3:30 pm or go on your own!
