Orientation Schedule for Saturday, September 6
Move In 8 am - 2 pm. Various locations.
It all begins today when you check in, pick up your RISD ID card, move into your residence hall and meet your Resident Advisor and Orientation Leader.
Information Center 8 am - 2pm. Carr House Conference Room.
Orientation staff will be on hand to answer any of your questions in Carr House.
Continental Breakfast Available 8 am - 10 am. Met. Brunch Available 10 am- 2 pm. Met.
Immunization Clinic 8:30 am - 3 pm. Met Room B.
Complete any immunizations missing from your health form. All students must have a completed health form on file in order to attend classes.
Information Fair 10 am - 1 pm. Upper Met.
RISD departments and local banks will have tables to answer questions and provide information.
Diversity Unplugged 11 am - 12 pm. Ewing Multicultural Center.
Join the Office of Intercultural Student Engagement and International Student Services to learn more about campus resources and opportunities to be involved in campus diversity. Staff and students will be present to discuss our role in helping shape a respectful, inclusive campus. Topics will include resources for racial/ethnic diversity, international students, spiritual life, LGBTQ life, and first-generation to college students, and connections to the local community. Come make a friend and get connected! Refreshments provided. (Optional)
Parent Academic Information Session 12-12:45 pm, and repeated at 1-1:45 pm. Chace Center Metcalf Auditorium.
Joanne Stryker, Dean of Foundation Studies, Ken Horii, Advising Coordinator for Foundation Studies,
Shawn Greenlee, Programs Head for Foundation Studies, and Daniel Cavicchi, Dean of Liberal Arts, host this important information session. Parents will see an overview of the first year academics and will have the opportunity to ask questions. (Optional)
Life Outside the Studio: Student Affairs Information Session for Parents 12-12:45 pm, and repeated at 1-1:45 pm. RISD Auditorium.
Speak with representatives from the Student Affairs division (Residence Life, Student Involvement, Intercultural Student Engagement, Public Safety, Health and Wellness, and Dining and Retail) and get your questions answered regarding student support. (Optional)
RISD Welcome 2:30 pm - 3:00 pm. First Baptist Church, 75 North Main Street, Providence.
Join RISD's President, Provost, Dean of Students, and Student Alliance President for an official welcome to RISD for students and families.
Say Goodbye 3:15 pm - 3:30 pm. Lawn of the First Baptist Church.
Take a few minutes to say goodbye to students and families as Orientation officially kicks off. Students will head up the hill to Nickerson Green and families will go to the RISD Museum of Art.
Parent and Family Reception 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm. RISD Museum of Art.
Mix and mingle with other parents and families and meet RISD faculty and staff while enjoying refreshments.
New Student Orientation Kickoff 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm. Nickerson Green.
New Student Orientation officially kicks off as new students join the Orientation Leaders (OLs), Resident Advisors (RAs), Student Alliance Executive Committee, staff, and current students. Get to know your fellow students and get ready for some fun!
Meet your Orientation Leader 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm. Various locations.
Get to know your Orientation Leader and fellow classmates in your small group. Your OL will help guide you through your first few days on campus.
Dinner 5:30 pm - 6:45 pm. Nickerson Green.
Enjoy a festive welcome dinner with your OLs and RAs.
Residence Life Floor Meetings 7 pm - 8 pm. Various Residence Halls.
Meet your Resident Advisor (RA) and your floor neigbors to get the low-down on residence hall living and campus policies.
First Night Celebration 8:30 pm. Freshman Quad.
Come out for an energetic drum and dance performance as you celebrate your first night as a RISD student. Join in and bust a move!
